Tech Job Hunting
It’s been over two weeks now since I’ve started my latest job hunt. I call it a hunt because the truly ideal jobs are hard to find. There are those jobs that pay really well but you sacrifice not being able to do “cool” stuff and there are those small business jobs that give you a lot of freedom to call the shots on technology and architecture but don’t pay well. Like everything else in life I suppose finding an employer and team where you fit in is a struggle and to some extent a compromise.
I’ve always considered myself extremely lucky because I absolutely love what I do and for the most part I’ve been able to fit in well wherever I’ve been employed. Now that I’m on the other side of that little line in the sand, I constantly wonder if my skillset is up to par, or even if I should switch to an entirely new platform (for me it would be Java to .Net). Then there’s always the prospect of moving to something like LAMP where there seems to be plenty of work for freelancers but the pay rate is much, much lower.
To those who might read this and are contributing to the nation’s 4.7% unemployed statistic…may the best man win!
